The black and white photo is Charles Easton Spooner – splendid fellow, Ffestiniog Railway engineer and secretary from 1856 to 1886. He and his sister Louisa are the ‘real’ people in the story, although sadly I’ve been unable to find an image of her. There are plenty of photos of Charles’ locos, but not his sister!
A friend has had a bit of fun with AI images based on some of my characters. I think they’re pretty good, although there are some glaring issues. For instance, slate would never be stacked horizontally, always vertically, but when she tried to get this across, AI just produced unfeasibly tall stacks of horizontal slates, taller than the people!

Those dark haired Priddie boys appear to be identical triplets; they are brothers, but a bit more varied in age and appearance! Glory is just right, although perhaps Flora would look a bit more world-weary. Ed and Lowri made me sigh (fool!) – perfect!
